I am trying to find a paintball gun that is inexpensive. I have played once and really liked it and now my friends are getting into it. I have been looking at the Tippmann 98 custom which is 130 but i don’t want an electronic gun

the tippman 98 custom is not a electronic gun. it’s the most perfect begginners gun. Its extremely reliable and it’s exactly want you would want to get. no wonder why it’s the most popular gun there is?

I’m not sure why you don’t want an electric marker. A Smart Parts Vibe ($150) or SP-1 are great entry level - intermediate level markers. Yes they are electric which means you’re spending a few dollars on a 9V every now and then or buying a rechargeable 9V and charging it when needed, but that’s not really an issue. The electronics are well protected from moisture and Smart Parts has proved this by cycling the marker under water. As for some of the benefits over standard mechanical blow backs, such as a Tippmann 98C, the Vibe is much quieter, cycles much more smoothly, it’s more air efficient, and basic maintenance is a breeze with the bolt out back design. As a bonus, since it’s an electric marker, it has multiple firing modes (semi, 3 round burst, and full auto) if you’re allowed to use them where you play. It has a low-force anti-chop bolt that, in my experience with my SP-1, works like a champ. It also has a double trigger to allow for greater rates of fire, although the stock board is capped at 11bps, has a tighter profile and weighs less than a 98C, which allows for greater maneuverability. Also, since the marker has a regulator it’ll be much more consistent than a non regulated marker, such as a 98C, and the more consistant a marker is the greater accuracy you can achieve. The only drawbacks to it IMO over a 98C is that it won’t take quite as much abuse. The 98C can take slightly more physical abuse and you can neglect it for longer periods of time not cleaning it. The 98C could probably go years without being cleaned and still work (not all that well though), but the Vibe needs to be cleaned and lubed on a regular basis or it’ll stop working all together. But honestly, why would you neglect any marker in this fashion?
If you’re after a milsim look the SP-1 would suite you, but it’s $175. I own an SP-1 and a BT-4 Assault, between the two, the SP-1 wins hands down. Don’t get me wrong, I like my BT-4, but it just can’t compare to the SP-1 in anything other than Milsim looks. I even have it E-Griped, so given that, now that I think about it, it can out shoot my stock SP-1. However, without a fast enough loader it would chop (no ACT).

I just bought a tippmann 98 custom. I have gone around 10 times and i play woods ball. Before i got this i used a spyder victor 2 which was superb but i did have a few jams though. Just make sure you have a good hopper and it’s all good
